Data collaboration to make compliance administration faster
Agriculture businesses and organisations are stepping up to help farmers save time with reporting responsibilities and to unlock the value of new devices and software tools.
DairyNZ’s 2023 Workplace Productivity survey found New Zealand farmers spend approximately one hour every day on administrative tasks like paperwork and reporting.
LIC chief information officer Dhaya Sivakumar said data sharing would make these processes significantly faster.
“The need for high quality farm data keeps growing, but this is often met with frustration from farmers when they’re required to supply the same information to multiple industry players” he said.
More than 90% of New Zealand’s dairy farmers are already using LIC’s MINDATM web-based herd management system, Sivakumar said.
“It’s no surprise then that MINDA has been investing significant effort into data collaborations”.
A new MINDA feature was launched earlier this year, giving farmers control over stock reconciliation data they maintain in MINDA, and with the click of a button they can now pre-fill their Fonterra Farm Dairy Records or Open Country Dairy ‘Farm Environment Plan’.
This feature has proved popular with well over 3800 farmers opting to make use of it so far this season.
Access to stock reconciliation data is also being opened to popular farm management software tools like Trev and Figured. Trev Chief Growth Officer Brenna Townshend said, “by connecting the dots across datasets they were able to provide mutual customers with the right tools to win back time.”
MINDA has already been integrated with wearable technology and over 1000 herds now have information flowing between MINDA and their choice of collar or tag provider, allowing farmers to get a clearer picture of an animals’ performance, health and fertility.
This is just the beginning of MINDA’s evolving role in an ecosystem of connected software and devices.
“We have big plans for how we can make data work harder for our farmers. Now that we’ve laid the foundations, we’re excited to partner with more companies to turn that vision into a reality,” Sivakumar said.
